Gary C. Hartung, 61, of Jeannette, died Friday, February 20, 2026, in Independence Health Westmoreland Hospital, surrounded and comforted by his loving family.
He was born September 14, 1964, in Jeannette, a son of the late Margaret “Ruth” Tepke and Bernard L. Hartung. Prior to retirement, he worked within the construction trade as a painter, carpenter and had handyman skills that probably spawned the TV show “MacGyver”, with duct tape and zip ties to the rescue! Gary was a man of many talents and interest. He was a gifted artist, winning awards for his originality, creativity, and talent. He was amateur musician and loved the acoustics of his garage. He earned the family nickname “Garaleo” for his hobby as a stargazer. He was a Patriot and proud to be an American. But above all, his greatest joy was being a DAD.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Marcia Ryan Hartung; two daughters, Evelyn Hartung (Jason) of Pittsburgh, and Kristen Hartung of Jeannette; his seven beloved grandchildren, Matthew Hartung, Trinity Corona, Jaxon Hartung, Arelyn Perkins, Emerson Perkins, Wailand Perkins, Gwendolyn Perkins; six siblings, Ann (Bill) McCartney of Pittsburgh, Michael (Emiko) Hartung of Greensburg, Alesia Johnson of Pittsburgh, Russell (Christine) Hartung of Florida, Cathrine (John) Hill of Virginia, Rebecca (Robert) Suhoza of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law, Andria (Paul) Frustaci; numerous nieces and nephews; and a lifelong friend, Dawn Miller.
